A convert offers a practical guide to the Catholic faith.

COME HOLY SPIRIT

Barbara Del Buono

No Catholic Home should be without the book Come Holy Spirit.

This book is an awesome resource tool to teach the Catholic faith.

This is the book I have been searching for to educate my children about the Church.

Organized beautifully to teach prayers, the commandments, and the Precepts,

with biblical references printed throughout,

and with the most important lessons printed in bold,

this is the book your child needs before Confirmation.

Come Holy Spirit will help your child to understand the enormous responsibility of a Confirmed Catholic, and will give them a deep understanding of the truth within our Church. An indispensable tool for any home, Church or school library.”

Ann O’Reilly, Home-School Instructor

Confirmation Candidates need to know that they are entering this faith with the knowledge and beliefs to be able to sustain them and not fall away. Nowadays this happens when you do not get a good foundation in the basic tenets of our faith.

Come Holy Spirit will help your child to understand the enormous responsibility of a Confirmed Catholic, and will give them a deep understanding of the truth within our Church.

Christ’s apostles witnessed and wrote that He is who He claimed to be—the Son of God. He is the promised Messiah sent to save man from his sins and to re-open the gates of Heaven for man. He chose twelve very ordinary men to bring His message to His people. Only one of the twelve betrayed Him and that one committed suicide when he realized what he had done. Ten of these twelve were persecuted and killed for their witness that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and none of them ever recanted their belief that Christ is who He said He was. Only one, John, died of old age. He was the most beloved apostle of Christ and he was the only one at the foot of the cross as Christ died.

SACRAMENTS

Before Christ’s apostles died, they did as He had commanded them and established His church on earth. While Christ lived He told his disciples to:

Baptize Full authority has been given to me both in heaven and on earth: fo, therefore, and make disciples of all nation. Baptize them in the name ‘of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28: 18-19

Feed He who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, John 6: 54

During the meal Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. ‘Take this and eat it.’ He said, ‘ this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them. ‘All of you must drink from it,’ he said, ‘for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, to be poured out in behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.’ Matthew 26: 26-28

Forgive ‘Peace be with you,’ he said again. ‘As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ Then he breathed on them and said: ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive men’s sins, they are fogiven them; if you hold them bound, they are held bound.’ John 20: 20-23

Confirm I will ask the Father and he will give you another Paraclete-to be with you always: the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, since it neither sees him nor recognizes him; but you can recognize him because he remains with you and will be within you. John 14: 15-17

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two went down to these people and prayed that they might receive the Holy Spirit. It had not as yet come down upon any of them since they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. The pair upon arriving imposed hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. Acts 8: 14-17

Marry Have you not read that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female and declared, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and cling to his wife, and the two shall become as one’? Thus they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, let no man separate what God has joined. Matthew 19:4-6

For this reason a man shall eave his father and mother, and shall cling to his wife and the two shall be made into one. This is a great foreshadowing: I mean that it refers to Christ and the Church. In any case, each one should love his wife as he loves himself, the wife for her part showing respect for her husband. Ephesians 5: 29-32

Ordain Jesus said to them, ‘Come after me; I will make your fishers of men.’ Mark 1: 17

Look! I will send many fisherman. Says the LORD, to catch them. Jeremiah 16:16

Then he went out to the mountain to pray, spending the night in communion with God. At daybreak he called his disciples and selected twelve of them to be his apostles Luke 6: 12

To the elders among you I, a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s suffering and sharer in the glory that is to be revealed made this appeal, God’s flock is in your midst; give it a shepherd’s care. Watch over it willingly as God would have you do, no under constraint, and not for shameful profit either, but generously. Be examples to the flock, not lording it over those assigned to you, so that when the chief Shepherd appears you will win for yourselves this unfading crown of glory. 1 Peter 5: 1-4

Anoint They expelled many demons, anointed the sick with oil, and worked many cures. Mark 6: 13

If anyone among you is suffering hardship, he must pray. If a person is in good spirits, he would sing a hymn of praise. Is there anyone sick among you? He should ask for the presbyters of the church. They in turn are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name {of the Lord] This prayer uttered in faith will reclaim the one who is ill, and the Lord will restore him to health. If he has committed any sins, forgiveness will be his. James 5: 13-15

READERS TESTIMONIALS:

I particularly liked the many biblical references throughout the pages, as I feel they help not only in our understanding of the faith, but in our ability to defend our faith. I recommend this title to anyone who wants a ‘refresher course’ in some of the basics of our Catholic faith.

FROM THE AUTHOR:

“Not everything can be tolerated without violating the promises made with God at Confirmation. A particular lifestyle goes along with being confirmed in the Catholic Church. It is one in which God’s laws and those of His Church are the standard for living one’s entire life. It is the standard outside of ourselves that keeps us on the path to holiness and the one in which others have a right to expect us to live.”

“It is difficult to conduct your life based on this faith in the permissive world we live in today. Sinful lifestyles are flaunted before us silently without a word of disagreement…If we do offer objections; we may be ridiculed, harassed and embarrassed.”
